A marvelous cosy retreat with a soul-stirring culinary experience is what Malabar Maasara is all about. Peacefully tucked away in the midst of lush greenery, Abida Rasheed’s house is an architectural blend of modernity and tradition. Take a culinary sojourn into the heart of Malabar, with its legacies of cross-cultural delicacies and historic influences from Arab traders as well as European colonialism.
The space
The space offered to guests has two comfy bed rooms, balcony, garden and a vast hall. The traditional setting, vintage furniture and warm interior gives you the ambience of an old Kerala tharavaad, with its structural design reminding you of the borrowed charms of modernity. A small river flows near the house and there is a beautiful garden where guests can relax. The living room has a distinct charm of its own -with a small library containing precious books on food and cooking; an incredible collection of old gramophone music records that were painstakingly collected by Abida’s late husband Mohammed Rasheed.
Abida Rasheed’s culinary journeys are remarkable. She has a repertoire of innumerable Malabar dishes, particularly in the authentic Mappila style. At Malabar Maasara, guests are given the privilege to witness her perform her magic first-hand. Add to it her warm and open conversations, and you get an experience that rejuvenates your stomach and soul. Come and enjoy your stay with Malabar’s most authentic and leading food expert. And carry her traditionally cooked and naturally preserved food products home, if you like.
